2009 NEA Hawaii Grants

In 2009 the United States National Endowment for the arts issued four grants, totaling $42,500, to Hawaii arts organizations, Note that this may not be a complete list and some of the details of these grants may have changed since this list was published.

2009 NEA Grants for Oahu Projects

RECIPIENT: Bamboo Ridge Press
LOCATION: Honolulu,Oahu, Hawaii
CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence
DESCRIPTION: To support the publication and promotion of the literary journal Bamboo Ridge and a book of fiction. The journal will focus on the unique literature and culture of Hawaii, and the proposed story collection by Filipino-American writer Michelle Cruz Skinner will explore the Filipino diaspora from the Philippines to Hawaii to Italy.

RECIPIENT: University of Hawaii "Manoa" Journal
LOCATION: Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii
CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence
DESCRIPTION: To support the publication and promotion of Manoa: A Pacific Journal of International Writing. The journal continues to focus on contemporary work from Asia and the Pacific.

2009 NEA Grants for Maio Projects

RECIPIENT: Hawaii Opera Theatre
COMPANY LOCATION: Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii
CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence
DESCRIPTION: To support performances of the production of Georges Bizet's Carmen on the island of Maui. In addition to the performances, the company will offer the program "Opera for Everyone" for Maui students.

Big Island 2009 NEA Grants

RECIPIENT: Ebb & Flow Arts
LOCATION: Kula, Big Island, Hawaii
CATEGORY: Challenge America
FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Challenge America
DESCRIPTION: To support a concert tour by the Tilden Trio. The Trio, comprised of violinist Sarn Oliver, cellist Peter Wyrick, and pianist June Choi Oh, will perform on Maui, Oahu, and the Big Island of Hawaii.
