January Maui County Events Funded

EVENT: Maui Cultural Diversity Days
EVENT DATE: January 18-21, 2008
ORGANIZATION: Arts Education for Children Group
DESCRIPTION: Events in several Maui locations on Martin Luther King Day weekend. 2008 Diversity Days events included a concert at the Keolahou Hawaiian Church, a production of the play "Sistas and Storytellers" at the Iao Theatre, a free performance festival at Banyan Tree Park in Wailluku, and n "I Have a Dream" concert at the Iao Theatre.

ORGANIZATION: East Maui Taro Festival
ORGANIZER'S DESCRIPTION: A Hawaiian cultural event which focuses on Kalo, Taro, the staple food of Hawai'i. All-day festival features local musicians, hula halau, 20 food booths, each featuring a kalo dish, Arts & Crafts, Info Tent and the Ag Tent with a popular Farmers Market; hands-on poi-pounding is a highlight for visitors and locals alike.

ORGANIZATION: Arts Education for Children Group DESCRIPTION: 10-day series of concerts and music workshops featuring guest performers & instructors. Event features nstrumental workshops, vocal clinics, and community concerts. Open to musicians and singers of all ages. Events are separated only by skill level, not by age. The 2008 events included classical, pop, blues, vocal and instrumental jazz events.

ORGANIZATION: Lahaina Restoration Foundation
ORGANIZERS DESCRIPTI0N: We will be celebrating the lives and times of the Plantation era at Plantation Days event to be held at the Old Pioneer Mill site on July 31 and Aug.1. Food, music, entertainment, keiki games from the Plantation era. A special feature will be a re-creation of Front Street with favorite stores such as Liberty Restaurant serving "fry soup", the special pies from the Banyan Inn, movies at Pioneer Theater, shave ice at the Yamamoto Store and lots more.
