Hawaii Ponoi Coalition

In August of 2007 a group of Native Hawaiian organizations banded to gether to form a group called the Hawaii Ponoi Coalition. The goal of the new coalition is to educate Hawaii's visitors and residents about the truths and misconceptions many people have about Hawaii's history, the Native Hawaiian population, and Hawaii's very special and unique culture.

The Hawaii Ponoi Coalition was named after "Hawaii Ponoi", which has been declared the Hawaii National Anthem. That son was written by Hawaiian King David Kalakaua in 1874 and the title means "Hawaii's Own".

The coalition will address issues such as defending the Kamehameha Schools right to give admissions priority to applicants with Native Hawaiian ancestry, the movement to have non-Hawaiians become part of the Kau Inoa Native Hawaiian registration process, and many other issues.

Participation in the coalition is open to any group or individual who supports Native Hawaiian rights. Organizations in the the new coalition include:

Alu Like Incorporated

Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs

Department of Hawaiian Home Lands

Friends of Iolani Palace

Iliouokalani Coalition
Founded by Takemine

Kamakakuokalani

Kamehameha Schools
