The Movement to Ban Fireworks in Hawaii
Firecrackers are a strong cultural tradition in Hawaii,
but some islanders would like to see them outlawed because they
can cause injuries and fires, because they scare pets, and because
they cause air pollution that is a danger to small children,
the elderly, and people with asthma.
Hawaii residents age 60 and over are
most in favor of a state-wide fireworks ban and
young adults 18 to 29 are the most opposed to a ban.
