The Movement to Ban Fireworks in Hawaii

Firecrackers are a strong cultural tradition in Hawaii, but some islanders would like to see them outlawed because they can cause injuries and fires, because they scare pets, and because they cause air pollution that is a danger to small children, the elderly, and people with asthma. Hawaii residents age 60 and over are most in favor of a state-wide fireworks ban and young adults 18 to 29 are the most opposed to a ban.

U.S States With Consumer Fireworks Bans
  • As of December 2007, five U.S. states had banned all forms of consumer fireworks: Delaware, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island. A few states, such as South Carolina and Tennessee stil had very liberal fireworks laws.
