Facts About Filipinos in Hawaii
The first Filipinos in Hawaii were probably
the contract sugar workers who immigrated to
Hawaii from the Philippines in 1906.
Filipinos are one of the fastest growing
ethnic groups in Hawaii. In 2005 approximately
25% of Hawaii's popular was either Filipino or
part Filipino.
Filipino Events in Hawaii
Honolulu Filipino Fiesta and Parade
The annual Filipino Fiesta, Parade, and Santacruzan
event will take place on Saturday, May 9, 2009
at Kapiolani Park on the Diamond Head end of Waikiki.
This festival takes place every year, and it
features three events in one:
A morning parade through Waikiki,
all day fiesta in Kapiolani Park with
Philippine entertainment and food booths,
and an evening Santacruzan Festival
in the park featuring Filipino women
representing religious and historical personages,
marching under colorful, flower-bedecked
arches in a candle-lit parade.
